The Doctor of Speech-Language Pathology (SLPD) degree program is designed for post-master’s speech-language pathologists holding the ASHA Certificate of Clinical Competence wanting to specialize in an area of interest with a clinical doctoral degree. At this time, the SLPD program does not require accreditation from ASHA.

The Doctor of Philosophy degree offered by the Department of Communication Sciences and Disorders (CSD) permits specialization in a variety of disciplinary domains. The doctoral curriculum provides an individualized broad-based education within which a specific area of scholarly expertise is developed and culminates in a mentored program of basic or applied research.
Exceptional students currently enrolled in SASS MSc programs in audiology and speech-language pathology may be eligible to transfer into the PhD program. If an application for such a transfer is approved, the transfer itself may occur after 12 months of MSc studies, provided minimum criteria are met (see Faculty of Graduate and Postdoctoral Studies Masters-PhD Transfers for more details).

This program is designed for speech-language pathologists holding the Certificate of Clinical Competence from the American Speech-Language-Hearing Association wanting to specialize in an area of interest and obtain a doctoral degree. Applicants should have at least three years of professional clinical experience before applying to this program.
Although pathology is a medical field, a Ph.D. in Pathology is not a medical degree; instead, this program prepares graduates to become researchers and teachers in pathology.
